Research & Development

Madhya Pradesh has a rich medicinal plant flora with more than 2000 valuable species with an immense scope for income generation. In order to familiarise the local communities with importance of conservation and utilisation of medicinal plant species and to provide opportunities to enhance their livelihoods, MFP Federation has established a Processing and Research Centre (MFP PARC) at Barkheda Pathani, Bhopal.

A laboratory has also been set up at MFP PARC to provide facilities for quality evaluation of medicinal plant produce and honey at nominal charges.

It is well equipped for assessing the identity, purity, and strength of medicinal plant materials involving visual macroscopic and microscopic examination, use of thin-layer chromatography(TLC), determination of foreign matter, ash, extractable matter, water and volatile matter, volatile and fixed oils, bitterness, swelling index, foaming index as well as characteristic and marker compounds. Quantification of contaminants such as pesticide residues, heavy metals, and micro-organisms is also included.

State of the art high precision equipments, like HPLC, Gas Chromatograph, UV-VIS Spectrophotometer and other peripherals have been installed to meet the globally acceptable quality standards.

A herbarium is set up where genuine samples of the plant parts are preserved. Plant anatomical as well as genetic records of the flora of Madhya Pradesh in India will be maintained.

Activities
  • Research in methodology for quality evaluation of Medicinal & Aromatic plants.
  • Testing for the quality parameters of the plant raw material and finished products.
  • Testing of plant drugs - crude and finished products according to IP/ BIS / AGMARK / CODEX/WHO standards.
  • Determination of microbial load in plant drugs.
  • Establishment of quality standards of Indigenous Medicinal & Aromatic Plants.
  • Herbal product development -drugs, dyes, colorants, cosmetics and food supplements.
  • Research in tissue culture methods for plant multiplication.
  • Herbarium - Keeping organoleptic, anatomical as well as genetic records of the flora of Madhya Pradesh in India.
  • Providing training in the area and extension education
